Fiber Optics

Fiber Optic Technology

The basics of fiber optics are as simple as watching a blinking light in the distance, yet the technologies and applications available can be used to carry a multitude of different communication signals. HOA Technology is aware of the possibilities and utilizes fiber optics to our best advantage, providing our clients with flexible security systems that can use existing fiber strands to the fullest capability.

Fiber Optics

Speed: Fiber optic networks operate at high speeds

Bandwidth: Large carrying capacity.

Distance: Signals can be transmitted further without needing to be “refreshed” or strengthened.

Resistance: Greater resistance to electromagnetic noise such as radios, motors, or other nearby cables.

Maintenance: Fiber optic cables cost much less to maintain.

In recent years it has become apparent that fiber optics are steadily replacing copper wire as an appropriate means of communication signal transmission. Fiber optics is now the dominant medium for terrestrial transmission of digital signals. Digital fiber optic systems are well established for transporting high quality video, audio, and data signals.

Although coaxial cables can provide adequate CCTV signal transmission today’s high performance CCTV systems require increased reliability and greater bandwidth to be available from the camera end to the monitor end, over greater distances and in harsh environments. Fiber optics preserves the quality of the video signal and retains quality images for DVR storage. Where it is fairly easy to tap or intercept electrical communications in copper cables, due to the magnetic field generated by electron movement, fiber optics is a more secure communications link.

Successful security system integration can employ various communications methods such as hardwired copper cable, wireless transmission, and fiber optics. HOA Technology will provide support and consultation for an existing system, full site upgrade or at planning and design stages. With our experience and the technology that fiber optics provides there is enormous flexibility in today’s security applications.

These systems are particularly well-suited for long-distance applications where the monitoring of CCTV and access control needs to be performed at multiple locations which are connected to one overall system. HOA Technology can offer single or multiple video channels with pan, tilt, and zoom functions using only a single fiber. Such technology is used in conjunction with access control systems to monitor perimeter intrusion and detection, access control, alarm points, or biometrics using fiber as a backbone.
